For the uninitiated, the original Devil May Cry series pioneered the idea of ​​gaming in style; with breakneck speeds, intricate and acrobatic combos, perfect control, and an intense presentation filled with Capcom-esque grit that reflects the trends of the time, Devil May Cry is a direct influence on many of today's similar titles.

Seven years after its original launch, Capcom brought back Devil May Cry 4 - the publisher's first PS3 title - with Devil May Cry 4: Special Edition. On PS4 and Xbox One, with a treatment similar to their recent revival with Resident Evil: HD Remaster, DMC4: SE features new game modes, gameplay and visual improvements, and perhaps the most exciting aspect for fans, the largest playable roster in any DMC -game yet!

Speaking of the roster, fan favorite Vergil is playable and his appearance is based on his rendering from Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening Special Edition. Gameplay-wise, a new mechanic called "Concentration" is introduced, which complements Vergil's taijutsu style and rewards players with progressively stronger attacks when battles are done calmly without relying on button presses. This combined with the "Grim Trick" teleportation ability will not only challenge veterans and novices alike, but also provide a special experience that sets Vergil apart from both DMC protagonists Dante and Nero.

Two other exciting additions to the roster once again channel fan favorites, and each character has a distinct playstyle that adds to the replayability common to the Devil May Cry series: Trish and Lady!

While Trish is a recurring playable character, her biggest change is that she has ditched her previous style of weapon switching and now instead wields the Sparda sword in a variety of ways without complex button combinations; while this may sound simple, simplicity is far more difficult to excel at, and this new playstyle will be something to look forward to.

For veterans, Devil May Cry 4: Special Edition will see Lady's debut as a playable character, and her focus is on long-range combat; this emphasis on firearms will also introduce a completely alternative way to tackle the many enemies in this fast-paced title.

Along with all the improvements and additions, the "Legendary Dark Knight Mode" which was missing from the original PS3 version has also been implemented; players will be under constant pressure as this mode pits them against an outrageous amount of enemies - only those with good skills or veterans looking for an even more extreme experience will find solace here.
